contain lists of and information on cover crops, trees, shrubs, and other
plants, many of which are useful for soil health management.

The searchable UC
SAREP Online Cover Crop Database (USA) contains over 40 plant
descriptions for temperate and tropical cover crops species.
- ILDIS,
the International Legume Database and Information Service is a searchable
(by species name) database of legume species found worldwide. Available
information on each species includes scientific and common names, geographical
distribution, and literature references.

The searchable Illustrated
Legume Genetic Resources Database, a Japanese Ministry of Agriculture,
Forestry and Fisheries Genebank Project contains photos and descriptions
useful legumes, including many green manure/cover crops species.
- LEXSYS
(Legume Expert SYStem) is a downloadable (via ftp) searchable database
of herbaceous legumes (91 data fields) and a program that allows searching
the database using 47 selection criteria. It was developed by researchers
in Africa who are interested in integrating legumes into farming systems.

NRCS Plants Database can
be searched by common or scientific name and contains taxonomic, geographic
and other information.
- VAST
(VAScular Tropicos) is a searchable nomenclature database for plants
of the tropics built by the Missouri Botanical Gardens.
- The

World Wide Web Multilingual Multiscript
Plant Name database includes extensive information on plant
names, and for some plant groups, photos and otherl resources.
- Plants
for a Future has developed a species database for almost 7000
useful plants, many of which are useful for soil health.
- Agroforester.net
has developed this table of 24
agroforestry tree species and their uses, preferred climate
conditions, tolerances, and sizes.
- 150
tree and shrub species are listed alphabetically by scientific
name on this Sustainable Trees and Shrubs site from the University of
Rhode Island (USA).
- A
plant descriptions database for plants
of the tropics is available through Raintree.com. Species are
arranged alphabetically by common name, species name, disorder/action,
property/action, and recorded ethnobotany uses.
- An
alphabetical list of Fact Sheets on multipurpose
tree species is available through Winrock International.
- A
tree
species reference and selection guide which can be searched
or browsed by botanic or common name, and a database of botanic
nomenclature for agroforestry tree species are both available
from the World Agroforestry Centre.
