Dear all,
Someone called me and would like to have a source from which he could buy a large quantity of Tephrosia vogelii. That plant contains a substance called rotenone vogenaum which may have an important insecticide effect. If the results of his analyses are fine, the company of that man would probably have a contract with the possible producers in the future. They will need some tons of seeds. Isn't another way to better use the cover crops?

Please let me know the e-mail, the fax and the postal address of possible sources of Tephrosia vogelii.

Thank you and best regards,

Albert Eteka

Dear Albert,

CIAT should have some seed. That's where I got mine from. Try e.barrios@cgiar.org . I have a couple of kgs of seed but I will need it for research. Still, it is a prolific seed producer and you can probably get several tons from a few kilos--the seeds are small-- in less than a year. Apparently, they are using it in Vietnam with considerable success. The insecticidal properties are fairly well documented--apparently you just have to leave the leaves in water overnight and spray with the water the next day. It also fixes N--we are going to look at P releasing properties. Maybe the days of Tithonia and mucuna are numbered.
Happy New year to all.

Dear Albert,
Try the following contact at the Agroforestry College of Thai Nguyen University, where they used to work a lot with Tephrosia candida ( not vogelii, as I understand).
