Freely Available On-line Journals

  • AGRIPPA is a peer-reviewed FAO-s ponsored electronic journal for agricultural literature (available in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Chinese.)
  • International Journal of Agricultural Sustainability is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing the understanding of sustainability in agricultural and food systems. Free to some developing countries.
  • Livestock Research for Rural Development is an international journal for research into sustainable developing world agriculture. Some of the articles are in English, and some are in Spanish.
  • The Overstory is an on-line journal focusing on trees and crops in agroforestry and is hosted by agroforester.com. Past issues of the journal are indexed by date on this site.
  • Sciences of Soils, an on-line journal for the soil sciences, has stopped publication. However, all papers published so far will remain at this URL and will be freely and fully accessible.
  • Tropical and Subtropical Agroecosystems is a freely available on-line international peer-reviewed journal devoted to disseminating information contributing to the understanding and development of agroecosystems in tropical and subtropical areas. (Spanish and English)

  • Scirus is a science-specific Internet search engine that searches both free and journal souces.
  • Ingenta provides access to academic and professional publications available for online, fax and Ariel delivery. Also browsable by subject matter or publication
  • ASA-CSSA-SSSA subject collections of agricultural, environmental, and earth sciences journal articles are browsable and searchable.
  • CIAT's Electronic Journals page provides access to full texts of close to 300 journals, most of them freely available to any Internet user.
  • SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) provides access to and electronic publishing of scientific journals to meet needs of developing countries, particularly Latin America and the Caribbean countries.
  • Africa Journals Online provides free access to African published research including tables of contents and and abstracts from over 180 African-published peer-reviewed journals with links to the full text if available.

  • AGORA (Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture) provides full text access to agricultural articles in 400 journals. Free for selected countries with low GNI per capita (see eligibility requirements)
  • HighWire hosts the largest repository of free full-text life science articles in the world. Also lists sites with free access to developing economies.
  • Organic Eprints is an electronic, open access archive for papers related to research in organic agriculture. Searchable or browsable by topic.
  • Biomedworld's Agronomy, Crop & Soil Science Journals section links to numerous journals throughout the world. Some provide only abstract access.
  • TEKTRAN summaries on the Internet are "snapshots in time" -- selected pre-publication notices -- of recent research results from the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

  • AGRICOLA (AGRICultural OnLine Access) is a freely accessible bibliographic database of citations to agricultural literature created by the National Agricultural Library and its cooperators.
  • AGRIS/CARIS Bibliographic Database searches for articles in English, French and Spanish.(The AGRIS/CARIS Information Centre links to 35 searchable bibliographic databases. Select "bibliographic databases" from the third column of the site map.)
  • CAB Abstracts is a subscription-based bibliographic database compiled by CAB International
