   Highly recommended

  • HighWire hosts the largest repository of free full-text life science articles in the world. Also lists sites with free access to developing economies.
  • Scirus is a science-specific Internet search engine that searches both free and subscription journal sources, preferred web sources, and other web sources.

  • NCBI's Entrez Life Sciences Search Engine searches a number of databases for journal abstracts, free full-text journals as well as other resources
  • MedBioWorld's Agronomy, Crop & Soil Science Journals section links to numerous journals throughout the world. Can search for free access documents only.
  • Ingenta provides access to academic and professional publications available for online, fax and Ariel delivery. Also browsable by subject matter or publication.
  • ScienceDirect offers access to Elsevier Science journal (over 1,800 titles) along with journals from several other publishers.

  • AGORA (Access to Global Online Research in Agriculture) provides full text access to agricultural articles in 400 journals. Free for selected countries with low GNI per capita (see eligibility requirements)
  • Africa Journals Online provides free access to African published research including tables of contents and and abstracts from over 180 African-published peer-reviewed journals with links to the full text if available.
  • AgNIC - The Agriculture Network Information Center's search engine brings up agricultural information from the Internet that has been selected by the National Agricultural Library, US land-grant universities, and other partner institutions. Also browsable by topic.
  • Bioline International is a not-for-profit electronic publishing service that provides open access to quality research journals (15) published in developing countries. Subjects include biodiversity, the environment, conservation and international development. Can search by country. Includes peer-reviewed journals from Bra•zil, Cuba, India, Indonesia, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe and others.
  • Directory of Open Access Journals covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals (511). They try to cover all subjects and languages.
  • OAIster, a project of the University of Michigan Digital Library Production Service, provides a collection of freely available, previously difficult-to-access, academically-oriented digital resources that are easily searchable by anyone.
  • Organic Eprints is an electronic, open access archive for papers related to research in organic agriculture. Searchable or browsable by topic and by many European languages.
  • SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) provides access to and electronic publishing of scientific journals to meet needs of developing countries, particularly Latin America and the Caribbean countries.
  • Google Scholar - peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations.
  • AGRICOLA (AGRICultural OnLine Access) is a freely accessible bibliographic database of citations to agricultural literature created by the National Agricultural Library and its cooperators.

  • The WAICENT Information Finder seaches the Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) numerous digitized documents, websites and other resources in five languages. !!See also more complete database listings!!
  • The CGVLibrary allows you to search for digital information across the CGIAR center web sites. There are also links to other other agriculture libraries around the world. Don't miss this site!
  • Science.gov's agriculture section is a gateway (with search and browse functions) to authoritative selected science information provided by U.S. Government agencies, including research and development results.
  • ASA-CSSA-SSSA subject collections of agricultural, environmental, and earth sciences journal articles are browsable and searchable.
  • TEKTRAN summaries on the Internet are "snapshots in time" -- selected pre-publication notices -- of recent research results from the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
